Water treatment

Water clarification

Clarification options for process water, HES basins and sediment dams, selected through representative sampling and bench testing.
Sediment-laden basin water and the basin edge during field assessment

Who this is for

Civil contractors, treatment operators and environmental consultants

Your operating priority

Manage fine solids and variable water without relying on an untested fixed dose.

Before you specify or buy

Compare chemistry using representative samples, mixing conditions and settling observations, then confirm how results translate to site flow and controls.

What is covered

  • Assess water character, suspended solids and the clarification objective.
  • Compare suitable coagulant and pH approaches with jar tests where appropriate.
  • Consider settling behaviour, dosing access and available process equipment.
  • The site team confirms the treatment target and applicable approval requirements.

What we will ask you

  • Representative water sample and source conditions
  • Current chemical programme and mixing/settling arrangement
  • Target water quality and relevant approval conditions

Frequently asked questions

How can a contractor treat sediment-laden construction water?
Characterise the water, compare suitable coagulants and pH conditions through jar testing, then match mixing, settling and dosing controls to the site. The treatment arrangement and verification sampling must reflect the project approvals. Clear-looking water alone is not discharge authorisation.
Is one coagulant suitable for every water?
No. Water composition and variability affect treatment, so a representative sample and jar test are useful before selecting an option.
Does a jar test prove discharge compliance?
No. A bench test informs selection; site operation, sampling and the applicable approval determine compliance.
